Distinguish the difference: The differences are many and vast between a digitally or optically scanned document and
a Digitized Document. As an example, a scanned document still requires a paper or digital form to be used in order for the information
on that form to be scanned and or placed into an electronic storage file cabinet. That scanned document is a static representation of the initial form.
Static means, it can't be [99% of the time] edited, updated or modified without creating a new document and scanning it into the system. Regardless,
you are still using a paper form or document to create your record. This means that there really isn't a cost savings involved in the process, scanning/imaging is just
an extension of paper records and the associated costs still exist. Problems that face current CIO's... It starts with IT complexity, and complexity has created the need for IT integration. Where did all this IT complexity come from? Accumulation of legacy assets. Why is most of your IT budget focused backward on maintaining the past rather than looking ahead to supporting the future? We call this rearview-mirror budgeting. This rearview-mirror budgeting problem is legendary among CIOs and is partly responsible for the lack of strategic IT investment that is possible for CIOs today. How backward committed is your IT budget? Migrate the legacy assets onto one platform, establish the SDT interface program that will allow all of the
previous legacy assets a method of exchanging information. Move the scanning and optical imaging of paper into a secondary position
